THE
RE-TAP-ER IS IDEAL FOR REMOVING BURRS IN THREADED HOLES CAUSED BY CUTTING OFF,
COUNTERSINKING OR OTHER OPERATIONS, FOR RETAPPING OR RECHASING UNDERSIZE THREADS
AND FOR THREAD GAGING. IT OPERATES
ON A SIMPLE DOUBLE DISC CLUTCH MECHANISM WHICH CONVERTS FORWARD PRESSURE TO
RIGHT HAND ROTATION AND BACKWARD PRESSURE TO LEFT HAND ROTATION. TO
USE, CLAMP TAP OR THREAD GAGE IN CHUCK, TURN MOTOR ON, HOLD PART IN A CLAMPING
DEVICE AND EASE IT ON TO THE TAP OR GAGE.
SINCE THE TAP IS DRIVEN BY A FRICTION TYPE CLUTCH, HEAVY FORWARD
PRESSURE ON THE WORK PART WILL CAUSE THE TAP TO ROTATE RAPIDLY MAKING IT
DIFFICULT TO START THE PART ON TO THE TAP.
THEREFORE, THE LIGHTER THE FORWARD PRESSURE EXERTED ON THE PART THE
SLOWER THE TAP WILL ROTATE AND THE EASIER IT WILL BE TO START THE PART ON TO
THE TAP. (THE USE OF TAPS WITH NO
MORE THAN A THREE THREAD CHAMFER LEAD WILL FACILITATE STARTING THE PART ON TO
THE TAP). CONTINUED FORWARD
PRESSURE ON THE PART WILL THREAD IT ON TO THE TAP.
WHEN DESIRED DEPTH OF THREADING IS ATTAINED, PULL THE PART BACKWARD
AWAY FROM THE TAP AND THE TAP WILL IMMEDIATELY REVERSE ROTATION AND THE PART
WILL UNTHREAD OFF THE TAP. PILOT LIGHT SWITCH REMINDS YOU TO TURN
OFF MOTOR WHEN NOT IN USE. THE
ROTATING MECHANISM IS DRIVEN BY A DRIVE RING WHICH IS AVAILABLE IN TWO
DIFFERENT HARDNESSES DEPENDING ON THE PRESSURE REQUIRED FOR THE OPERATION
BEING PERFORMED. FOR SMALL
DIAMETER THREADS OR LIGHT STOCK REMOVAL USE THE NEOPRENE 60 DUROMETER BLACK
DRIVE RING [PART #BB-7]. FOR
LARGER DIAMETERS OR GREATER STOCK REMOVAL USE THE URETHANE 90 DUROMETER ORANGE
DRIVE RING [PART #BB-7HD]. TO
CHANGE DRIVE RING: UNPLUG MOTOR, THEN UNLOCK TWO MOTOR BASE CLAMPS [PT. NO.
17] BY LOOSENING TWO HOLD DOWN SCREWS [PT. NO. 16], PUSH DOWN DETENT PIN [PT.
NO. 18] AND SLIDE MOTOR BACK OUT OF DRIVE HOUSING ONLY UNTIL DRIVE SLEEVE [PT.
NO. 6] IS FULLY OUT FROM UNDER THE COVER PLATE [ PT. NO. 8].
REMOVE OLD DRIVE RING [PT. NO. 7] BY INSERTING A SMALL SCREWDRIVER
BEHIND THE OLD DRIVE RING AND FORCING IT FORWARD OVER FRONT SHOULDER OF DRIVE
SLEEVE. NEXT, PUSH NEW RING OVER
SHOULDER BEING SURE IT IS FULLY SEATED IN GROOVE OF DRIVE SLEEVE.
SLIDE MOTOR BACK INTO HOUSING UNTIL DETENT PIN IS AGAIN ENGAGED IN LEFT
SCREW SLOT IN MOTOR BASE. RETIGHTEN
TWO MOTOR BASE CLAMPS BY TIGHTENING HOLD DOWN SCREWS [PT. NO. 16] SECURELY. RE-TAP-ER IS NOW READY FOR USE AGAIN. IMPORTANT: THIS UNIT IS INTENDED FOR RETAPPING A THREAD THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN CUT AND DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH DRIVING POWER TO CUT A FULL THREAD. ALSO IT CAN ONLY BE USED FOR RIGHT HAND THREADS. PRICE ON APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL REVERSING SWITCH FOR USE ON LEFT HAND THREADS. TO AVOID INJURY, PARTS SHOULD BE HELD IN AN APPROPRIATE CLAMPING DEVICE WHILE BEING RETAPPED AND SHOULD NOT BE HELD BY HAND WITHOUT ADEQUATE PROTECTION.
