INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF 40-3-039 CUTOFF BLADE HOLDER FOR DAVENPORT MACHINE

MOUNT HOLDER ON CROSS SLIDE.  SET TO PROPER LATERAL LOCATION AND CLAMP IN PLACE.

INSTALL DESIRED WIDTH CUTOFF BLADE INSERT INTO OPENING IN INSERT SLIDE (PT. 2) BEING SURE THAT OPENING IS FREE OF CHIP AND INSERT IS FULLY SEATED AGAINST THE BACK OF THE OPENING.

CLAMP INSERT SECURELY IN PLACE BY TIGHTENING CLAMP SCREW (PT 12).

SNUG UP DOVETAIL CLAMP (PT. 4) BY TIGHTENING CLAMP SCREWS (PT. 11) AND ADJUST CUTOFF INSERT TO CENTER HEIGHT BY ROTATING ADJUSTING SCREW (PT. 10).

THEN TIGHTEN CLAMP SCREWS (PT. 11) SECURELY BEFORE RUNNING MACHINE.

WHEN INSERT NEEDS SHARPENING REMOVE INSERT FROM HOLDER AND REPLACE WITH SAME WIDTH INSERT.  NO FURTHER ADJUSTMENTS ARE NECESSARY.  REPLACEMENT INSERT WILL BE ON SAME CENTER HEIGHT AND DIAMETER SETTING.

INSERTS CAN BE RESHARPENED SEVERAL TIMES BY GRINDING MATERIAL OFF THE TOP SURFACE.  INSERT IS ORIGINALLY 1/2" HIGH ALLOWING ABOUT 1/8" OF RESHARPENABILITY DOWN TO 3/8" HEIGHT.  (SEE DIAGRAM).

TO RESHARPEN INSERTS PLACE INSERT IN VICE WITH A PARALLEL BAR UNDER IT THAT ALLOWS THE INSERT TO BE SEATED AT LEAST 1/4" BELOW THE TOP OF THE JAWS.  CLAMP INSERT IN VICE BEING CERTAIN THAT INSERT IS FULLY SEATED AGAINST PARALLEL BAR.  ON SURFACE GRINDER, GRIND TOP SURFACE PARALLEL TO BOTTOM SURFACE.  GRIND OFF MINIMUM AMOUNT NECESSARY TO REMOVE WEAR.

CHECK TO BE CERTAIN THAT TOP SURFACE OF INSERT IS PARALLEL TO BOTTOM SURFACE AND THAT INSERT IS AT LEAST .375" THICK BEFORE REINSTALLING IN HOLDER.

********** WARNING **********

IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO BE CERTAIN THAT INSERT IS CLAMPED SECURELY IN HOLDER.  IF INSERT IS NOT CLAMPED SECURELY MACHINE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY CAN RESULT.

EXTRA CARE MUST BE TAKEN WHEN YOU HAVE SHARPENED INSERT DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 3/8" HEIGHT, SINCE IT WILL NO LONGER BE POSSIBLE TO CLAMP THE INSERT IN THE HOLDER.  THIS IS DONE INTENTIONALLY SO THAT INSERT WILL NOT BE USED WHEN IT'S HEIGHT IS LESS THAN THAT WHICH IS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE CUTTING EDGE.

THEREFORE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE CERTAIN THAT THE CLAMP IS ACTUALLY CLAMPING ON THE INSERT HOLDING IT SECURELY IN THE HOLDER AND NOT MERELY BOTTOMING OUT.
